Pactor controllers

All,
There continues to be confusion and incorrect info on which PTC II
can be used with which application. Hope this helps:
For USERS:
Any PTCII product will work for Pactor for the user with AirMail. If the PTC II does not have a control port (IIe. IIex) AND the user wants to control the radio they will need another port (serial or USB to serial) fitted with an adaptor (if needed) to convert the RS232 levels to those for the radio. These are available at modest cost. I have verified this on several installations. The latest AirMail supports the USB driver for the PTC IIusb as well as allowing a separate serial port for radio control. AirMail cannot run simultaneous Pactor and Packet so there is essentially no difference in the PTC II or IIe/IIex in this application except for the radio control port.
For PMBOs:
For a PMBO there is currently no driver available for the PTC IIusb. However any serial PTCII (PTC II, IIe, IIex, Pro) that has a serial connection will work for the PMBO. If the PMBO needs to control the radio (for scanning) and is using the PTC IIe or IIex (no radio control port) then a similar arrangement as above with a separate serial port is required. The PMBO SCS driver can be configured with a separate serial port for radio control.
From Steve K4CJX: Because the latest SCS PTC scan stop mechanism has not been successfully deployed in the PMBO Scanner code, PMBOs will have to do some wiring in order to have a workable scan stop should they use a serial port for controlling the radio. At some point in the near future, a more effective scan stop methodology will be used, and the USB drivers will most likely be added.
If the PMBO wishes to run Packet Simultaneously with Pactor then either:
1) He must use the PTC II or PTC IIpro (not IIe or IIex) with the optional plug-in packet modules. Up to two modules supported.
OR
2) Use the II, IIpro, IIe or IIex and install Telpac and a local Telpac Server which will work with any TNC and use that for Packet channels. Multiple channels and instances are supported. This is what I do here. A similar arrangement will be available on the RMS.
In the future we will have some additional options for the new RMS code including a USB driver for the PTC IIusb.
